Dr. Marshall's Chiropractic Story
At the age of 23 years young, I was in a severe car accident. I was hit by another vehicle going approximately 90 miles per hour. My car was shoved into two parked cars in a driveway. My new car was smashed pretty much everywhere except where I was sitting. I am lucky to be alive, in fact, at the time of the accident, I saw my life flash before me. It was probably only a minute or so, but it felt like about 5 minutes before I could take a breath or even mutter a sound. I was taken by ambulance to the emergency room. I was unable to walk or move anything from the waist down. Where I felt pain the most was in my groin and pelvis so the hospital took x-rays of the pelvis. I was told there was no fracture or anything wrong as far as they could see, there was no reason for me not to be able to walk. They called my parents in to help me get dressed and sent me home. I was then taken to a medical doctor. His exam consisted of running his fingers down my spine to tell me he couldn't find anything and he thought I was faking my injury to get out of work.
I then went to a chiropractor who changed my life forever. He told me there had to be a reason I was in so much pain and something had to have been missed. He decided to retake x-rays and went higher up to include all of the lumbar spine (low back). There it was! I had broken my back and the L1 vertebra had been wedged into the spinal cord. The chiropractor sent me to an orthopedic surgeon who then referred me to a neurosurgeon because of the way the vertebra was wedged into the spinal cord. The neurosurgeon told me he thought surgery would be too risky and referred me to a second neurosurgeon. Again, I was told the surgery would be too risky and there was nothing they could do for me and that I would probably never walk again. I took this information back to my chiropractor. I was pretty shook up that I was told I would probably never walk again. The chiropractor looked me straight in the eye and asked: "Do you want to walk again?" I told him the specialists pretty much told me that was not an option. He said he couldn't promise anything but he would never give up on me as long as I never gave up on myself. Within about three months of chiropractic care, I was out of the wheelchair, and in another six months was off the crutches. I want back to a follow appointment with the neurosurgeon. He was shocked that I was walking. I was surprised that instead of being excited about it, he went on to tell me that I would have to accept the fact that I would probably live the rest of my life in pain and would most likely never lift over 25 pounds. Again, my chiropractor only gave me encouragement and although I did have many years of intense back pain, I am pretty much free from back pain today and have no restrictions on how much weight I can lift. I can never thank my chiropractor enough for helping me to realize my true health potential and for never giving up on me. He still calls me about once a month to this day to see how I am doing.
In over 20 years of practice, I have seen over and over how incredible the body is at healing itself, as long as there is no interference to the nervous system and I have experienced miracle after miracle, no matter what age the patient is.
- We literally live our lives though our nervous systems.
- Our bodies are self healing and self regulating.
- The brain and nervous system are the master controllers of all the systems in the body.
- If you interfere with the nervous system, you interfere with the body's ability to heal and self regulate.
Chiropractic is such an awesome profession that helps restore the body back to health, without the use of any drugs or surgery. Every decision we make for our health either moves us towards sickness and death or towards Wellness and a better life. Keep this in mind when making decisions about your health.
